Hey there, folks! Here’s the latest scoop from Pune – Maharashtra has sadly recorded another fatality due to Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), with the death toll in the state now at seven. The victim, a 37-year-old driver from Upper Indiranagar, Bibwewadi, passed away at Kamala Nehru Hospital in Pune on Sunday night.
According to the Health Department, there have been a total of 192 cases of GBS reported in Maharashtra, with Pune seeing a significant rise in numbers. The deceased first experienced weakness on January 31 and was initially treated at Bharti Hospital in Pune before being transferred to other medical facilities as his condition worsened. Unfortunately, despite medical intervention, he couldn’t pull through.
Currently, there are 167 confirmed cases of GBS in the state, with 39 cases within the Pune Municipal Corporation limits and 91 cases from newly merged villages. Pimpri-Chinchwad has reported 29 cases, and 25 cases have been detected in Pune’s rural areas, with an additional eight cases in other districts.
Among those affected, 48 patients are in ICU, while 21 are on ventilator support. On a more positive note, 91 patients have successfully recovered and been discharged from hospitals across Maharashtra. The disease seems to be affecting individuals of all age groups, with cases reported in the 20-29 and 50-59 age brackets, as well as in children, middle-aged individuals, and the elderly.
The Health Department is urging people to seek immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms like sudden weakness, paralysis, or muscle fatigue. Officials are closely monitoring the situation to contain the spread and provide timely treatment. Stay safe and take care, Pune!
