In a recent survey conducted by the Women and Child Welfare Department in Pune district, 552 malnourished children have been identified, with 72 of them classified as severely malnourished. These children will now be receiving intensive care at Village Child Development Centers (VCDC).

The District Council is taking proactive measures to combat malnutrition by providing balanced nutrition to children aged zero to six years. Funds have been allocated to Anganwadi workers to ensure the implementation of nutrition programs at the grassroots level.

During the survey, 480 children were found to be moderately malnourished, in addition to the 72 severely malnourished cases. All identified children will receive care at VCDCs, where they will be provided with nutritious meals, essential medicines, and continuous health monitoring.

At these centers, children are fed and medicated eight times a day. Taluka Health Officers also conduct regular inspections on weekends to monitor the children’s recovery and ensure effective implementation of the program.

Officials from the Women and Child Welfare Department have noted a significant decline in malnutrition cases compared to previous years, crediting the collaborative efforts of Anganwadi workers, doctors, and Taluka officers for this progress.
