Hey Pune folks, have you noticed the hazardous dust particles floating around the city due to all the ongoing development projects and private constructions? Well, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally decided to take action by putting their three water-sprinkling tankers to use.
It turns out that these tankers have been sitting unused for the past three years after costing the PMC a hefty Rs 1.20 crore. But fear not, as the Standing Committee recently approved a proposal to spend Rs 84.90 lakh in order to combat the air pollution caused by these dust particles.
With various projects like flyovers, Metro routes, underpasses, and roads in the works, vehicles transporting materials for these projects are contributing to the dust pollution. This has been particularly hard on citizens, especially patients, children, and the elderly.
Thankfully, the Centre has allocated funds from the National Clean Air Programme to help reduce dust pollution in the city. The water sprinkling tankers will focus on highly polluted roads such as Katraj-Kondhwa Road, IT Park Road in Kharadi, and roads near the garbage depot in Handewadi and Fursungi.
Each water tanker has a capacity of 7,000 litres and is equipped with 16 nozzles to spray water on the roads. This will help settle the dust particles and hopefully provide some relief to the residents. The vehicles will be used for two years, with an estimated expenditure of Rs 84.90 lakh for the initiative.
So, here’s to cleaner and fresher air in Pune, thanks to these water-sprinkling tankers finally being put to good use!
