Pune, 17th December 2024: The Pune traffic police have taken a strong stance against wrong-side driving by penalizing over one lakh motorists and filing FIRs against 100 individuals in the past two and a half months. This crackdown comes as a response to the significant issue of wrong-side driving in Pune, which poses a threat to lives and causes chaos on the roads.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police, Manoj Patil, wrong-side driving is one of the most dangerous violations after drunk driving. The strict action taken by the traffic police aims to prevent accidents and ensure discipline among motorists.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar highlighted the inconvenience caused by wrong-side driving during rush hours, leading to traffic jams and frustration among commuters. The campaign against wrong-side driving will continue in order to prevent accidents and fatalities.
Traffic officials have observed that wrong-side driving is prevalent among both two-wheelers and four-wheelers in Pune. The penalty for this violation is Rs 500, with FIRs being filed for rash and negligent driving in cases where offenders refuse to cooperate.
Local residents have welcomed the police action but have called for consistent enforcement to address the persisting issue of wrong-side driving. Greater civic awareness among citizens is also deemed necessary to ensure everyone’s safety on the roads.
Traffic personnel have been actively monitoring wrong-side driving during peak hours to curb violations and create safer roads in the city. The initiative aims to instill a sense of responsibility among motorists and foster a culture of safe and responsible driving in Pune.
