The video of NCP leader Rupali Chakankar performing a Pooja of an EVM machine at a voting center in Wadgaon Dhayari has caused quite a stir on social media. The Election Commission of India (ECI) officials were quick to file a complaint with the Sinhagad Road Police Station, leading to a case being registered against Chakankar.

The incident took place on 7th May, and a polling officer from the same station reported the violation of ECI rules regarding worship at polling stations. Following the instructions of the Baramati Lok Sabha Constituency’s Election Returning Officer, Kavita Dwivedi, the Sinhagad Road Police Station took action and registered a case against Chakankar.

In light of the incident, Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase has recommended disciplinary action against the polling station officers and staff involved. Notices have been issued to the polling station head, three polling officers, and one employee, with a decision pending after their responses are heard.

Rupali Chakankar, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women, conducted the EVM machine worship in the Khadakwasla Assembly Constituency of the Baramati Lok Sabha Constituency. District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase has taken administrative action in response to the incident, signaling the seriousness with which such violations are being addressed.
