In a unique protest against the increasing number of pigeons in Pune, the Erandwane Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandal took a stand against bird lovers who feed the pigeons near the Shri Ashtabhuja Durgamata Mandir. The mandal president, Prashant Velankar, emphasized the health risks associated with feeding pigeons and urged citizens to refrain from doing so.
Velankar also highlighted the cultural significance of not feeding pigeons during post-funeral rituals, as crows are traditionally supposed to touch the offerings first. He stressed the importance of protecting public health and preventing the spread of viruses through pigeon droppings.
The Pune Municipal Corporation has already banned feeding pigeons in public places and is taking strict action against violators. The mandal’s agitation serves as a reminder to the community to prioritize public health and safety over feeding pigeons.
