The Pune Metro Line 3 project has hit another roadblock, causing frustration among citizens and worsening traffic congestion along the route. Managed by Tata Realty-Siemens (TRIL-Siemens) under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the project is facing delays in key milestones, such as the integrated double-deck bridge, leading to concerns about meeting the revised deadline of March 2025.

The 23.3 km elevated metro line, initially set to be completed by the end of 2024, has seen slow progress, particularly with the incomplete double-deck bridge near E Square causing daily traffic chaos. Efforts to obtain a comment from Alok Kapoor, CEO of Puneri Metro, about the project’s progress and timeline have been unsuccessful, adding to citizens’ frustrations. The lack of updates on the official Pune Metro Line 3 website since August 2024 has also raised questions about transparency.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has criticized the project’s slow pace and the traffic congestion it has caused, urging responsible officers to expedite progress. As concerns grow over TRIL-Siemens’ ability to meet deadlines, senior PMRDA officials have increased oversight, closely monitoring day-to-day progress.

The delays have sparked public dissatisfaction and raised doubts about the project management capabilities of TRIL-Siemens. The ongoing construction challenges have also raised concerns about the viability of public-private partnerships for large-scale urban infrastructure projects. While officials promise improved oversight and accelerated construction, Pune’s citizens continue to face traffic snarls and construction detours, eagerly awaiting the relief promised by Pune Metro Line 3.
