Dr. Rahul Raghunath Patil, the Deputy Finance Advisor and Chief Accounts Officer (Construction) of Pune Division, Central Railway, has recently made headlines for his extraordinary achievement in the Comrades Marathon. This grueling 87 km race, which takes place in South Africa from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, is known as one of the toughest marathons in the world. Dr. Patil completed the race in an impressive 9 hours and 59 minutes, earning himself the prestigious Robert Mtshali medal.

The Comrades Marathon, established in 1921, attracted a record-breaking 20,000 participants from various countries, making it the largest marathon globally. Dr. Patil’s success in the race is a testament to his dedication and endurance as a fitness enthusiast. In the past five years, he has participated in numerous half-marathons, full marathons, and ultra-marathons, covering over 5,000 km running and 10,000 km cycling.

In addition to his Comrades Marathon achievement, Dr. Patil has also completed the Ironman 70.3 in Astana, Kazakhstan, in under 7 hours and secured the first place in the Deccan Cliffhanger cycling race. He credits his success to the training he received from his coach, Shiv Yadav, and the support from the Divisional Railway Manager Smt. Indu Dubey, Additional Divisional Railway Manager Shri Brijesh Kumar Singh, and other officers of Pune Division.
