Hey there, Pimpri residents! Exciting news for all of you – work has officially begun on the extension of the Pune Metro route up to Nigdi. The contract for the ‘via duct’ work has been awarded to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, and soil testing is currently in progress. The extension is expected to be completed within 130 weeks, which means that in approximately three years, you’ll be able to hop on the Metro from Nigdi.

This extension project was a result of popular demand, with citizens pushing for the Metro to reach Nigdi. After the Centre sanctioned the project at a cost of Rs 910.18 crore, a tender was floated for the ‘via duct’ work of the 5.519-km route extension. The contract has been awarded to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, and the elevated route will run along the service road from Nigdi to Pimpri.

Currently, soil testing is underway at various locations along the route, including Nigdi, Bhakti-shakti Chowk, and Tilak Chowk. Once this phase is complete, track-laying, signal system installation, power supply setup, and station building will be undertaken. The entire extension is set to be completed in just over three years, allowing citizens to travel from Nigdi to Swargate, Ramwadi, and Vanaz on the Metro.

According to MahaMetro Executive Director Hemant Sonawane, construction will commence once soil testing is finished, and the project is expected to be completed before the deadline. Former corporator Amit Gawde expressed his excitement for the extended route, emphasizing the importance of completing the work efficiently so that citizens can enjoy the benefits of the Metro sooner rather than later.

Get ready, Pimpri – your Metro extension is on its way!
