Hey there, bookworms and literature lovers! The Pune Book Festival wrapped up with a bang, smashing records left and right. With over 2.5 million books flying off the shelves, this year’s event saw a whopping Rs 40 crore in sales—a fourfold increase from last year.
Thanks to the National Book Trust (NBT), the festival was bigger and better than ever. With a staggering 600 book stalls and 1,000 authors in attendance, Pune solidified its status as a literary hotspot. The nine-day extravaganza drew in a cool million visitors, proving that Pune knows how to throw a book party.
But that’s not all—this year’s festival set four world records with a slew of book-related activities. From children’s film festivals to author workshops, there was something for everyone. Over 100 books were launched, and the inaugural ‘Pune Lit Fest’ brought in big names from all walks of life.
Organizer Rajesh Pande is already looking to the future, aiming to turn the festival into a full-blown movement. With plans to expand the ‘Writer-Reader Dialogue’ initiative in collaboration with Savitribai Phule Pune University, the connection between authors and readers is set to deepen.
And let’s not forget about the young readers who showed up in droves. Pande was quick to dispel the myth that today’s youth aren’t interested in books, citing their active participation and book purchases as proof that the love for reading is alive and well.
With attendees flocking in from all corners of Maharashtra, the Pune Book Festival has cemented its place as a must-visit for book enthusiasts. Here’s to many more successful festivals in the years to come!
