Hey there, Market Yard shoppers! It looks like you’re in for some good news this holiday season. Onion prices have taken a nosedive, dropping by a whopping ₹20 per kilogram in just one week. That’s right, you heard it here first!
The reason behind this sudden price drop? Well, it seems that the arrival of the New Red Onion (Halvi) variety in local markets has led to an increase in supply. And guess what? The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is predicting the possibility of unseasonal rains, prompting farmers to sell off their produce sooner rather than later.
So, how much can you expect to pay for your onions now? Wholesale prices are ranging from ₹15 to ₹30 per kilogram, depending on the quality. And at the retail level, you’re looking at prices between ₹30 and ₹50 per kilogram for the new red onions.
Just a week ago, prices were sky-high, with onions selling for between ₹50 and ₹70 per kilogram. But thanks to the influx of onions from regions like Shrigonda, Karjat, Jamkhed, Ashti, Karmala, and Shirur taluka, prices have dropped significantly.
In fact, Market Yard is seeing around 80 to 100 trucks of onions arriving daily, with the wholesale price plummeting from ₹40 to ₹50 per kilogram in just one week. Now that’s what I call a Christmas miracle!
So, if you’ve been holding off on stocking up on onions, now’s the time to load up your cart. Who knows how long these low prices will last? Happy shopping, folks!
