Hey folks! Big news coming out of Pune today – Praj Industries has just unveiled India’s first sustainable road made using lignin-based biobitumen. This revolutionary technology has the potential to change the game when it comes to road construction in the country.
In a grand ceremony attended by the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, the new road at the Nagpur-Mansar Bypass project on NH 44 was officially inaugurated. This eco-friendly road is a major step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainability in the infrastructure industry.
Praj Industries’ proprietary technology refines crude lignin into Lignin Bio-Bitumen, which can partially replace fossil-based bitumen. This green construction material offers a 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional bitumen, making it a game-changer in the industry.
Minister Nitin Gadkari praised Praj Industries for their innovative solution, stating that this new biobitumen technology reduces India’s dependency on imported bitumen and turns agricultural waste into a valuable resource. He also highlighted the potential for farmers to become energy providers through the production of biohydrogen, contributing to a cleaner and greener India.
In collaboration with CSIR-Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), Praj Industries tested the lignin-based bio-bitumen for application studies and successfully replaced up to 15% of traditional bitumen. The performance evaluation of a service road in Halol, Gujarat, after 2.5 years and 3 monsoon seasons showed promising results, leading to the development of the Nagpur-Mansar project.
Dr. Pramod Chaudhari, Founder Chairman of Praj Industries, expressed his pride in India’s first sustainable road using lignin-based bio-bitumen. He emphasized the importance of this technology in achieving the vision of a greener and self-reliant India, as well as the potential for bio-hydrogen development to transform the country’s energy landscape.
With India’s bitumen consumption on the rise and a significant portion being imported, the use of lignin-based bio-bitumen offers a sustainable solution to meet the country’s road construction needs. Praj Industries’ innovative approach is a step towards achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047 and reducing the annual import cost of bitumen for India.
So, let’s give a round of applause to Praj Industries for leading the way in sustainable road construction and paving the path towards a greener future for India!
