In a shocking turn of events in Katraj, two men were arrested for extorting Rs 5 lakh from a resto-bar owner. Nikhil Shinde (30) and Siddharth Ranpise (28) from Sahakarnagar were taken into custody by the Bharati Vidyapeeth police.

The duo allegedly threatened to file complaints against the owner at the district collector’s office and the excise department, claiming irregularities in the establishment. The 57-year-old resto-bar owner, who is also a member of an association representing restaurant and eatery owners, filed a complaint leading to the arrests.

Sub-Inspector Dheeraj Gupta, who led the operation, revealed that Shinde and Ranpise had been visiting the establishment since May, raising issues such as inadequate parking, food quality, and illegal operations. A trap was set up by the police after receiving the complaint, and the duo was caught red-handed while accepting the extortion money.

The arrests were made under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including extortion and criminal intimidation. The incident serves as a reminder to always be vigilant against such illegal activities and report them promptly to the authorities.
