Winter is here and so are the rising rates of dried fruits in Pune, burning a hole in the common man’s pocket. Despite the hefty price tags, citizens are still stocking up on these nutritious snacks to combat the cold weather.

According to local dried fruit trader Nitin Goyal, adverse weather conditions have led to a decrease in production worldwide, causing a 15-20% increase in prices. War conditions in Iran have also pushed up rates of popular dried fruits such as dates, black currants, and saffron.

While the inflated prices may be a concern for many, the health benefits of dried fruits cannot be ignored. Packed with essential nutrients, dried fruits are a popular choice for boosting immunity during the winter months.

Imported from various countries, dried fruits like almonds, walnuts, and raisins are in high demand in Pune. Despite the high prices, consumers are still willing to shell out the extra cash for these winter essentials.

With cashew nuts priced between 800 to 1,200 Rs and walnuts ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 Rs, it’s clear that dried fruits are not a budget-friendly option this season. However, the growing demand and limited supply have led to the surge in prices.

As we wait for new production to arrive in March, Puneites will have to make do with the pricey dried fruits to stay healthy and warm this winter. So, if you find yourself reaching for that bag of almonds or raisins, just remember that you’re not alone in feeling the pinch of the rising rates.
