Big changes are on the horizon for traffic management in Pune as the signal system management has been transferred from the Pune Municipal Corporation to the Pune Police. This move comes after an order issued by Guardian Minister and DyCM Ajit Pawar.

Previously, the PMC was in charge of signal maintenance, repair, and new signal installation in the city. However, with the handover to the Pune Police, the responsibility now falls under the Traffic Department. This shift is expected to streamline traffic flow and address issues such as out-of-order signals and signal synchronisation problems.

A recent fact-check revealed that out of the 700-800 chowks in Pune, only 200-225 signals are currently operational. This has contributed to traffic congestion and delays for commuters. The Pune Police has announced plans to install more signals where needed and closely monitor traffic in areas prone to congestion.

During a meeting with DyCM Ajit Pawar, concerns were also raised about inundation at 206 locations in Pune during the rainy season, leading to traffic snarls. To combat this issue, water pumps will be utilized to remove excess water from these areas.

Overall, these changes in signal system management and traffic monitoring are expected to improve the flow of traffic in Pune and make commuting smoother for residents and visitors alike. Stay tuned for more updates on the developments in traffic management in the city.
