Hey there Punekars, get ready for a smoother commute in the new year! Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has some exciting plans in store to tackle the city’s growing traffic congestion issue.

At a recent press conference, Commissioner Kumar spilled the beans on the comprehensive plan, which includes streamlining traffic signals, installing advanced radar-based technology, and expanding CCTV surveillance.

The focus for 2025 is clear – resolving traffic jams and ensuring smoother traffic flow. A proposal to upgrade traffic signals and improve traffic management is currently awaiting approval from the State Government. And get this – an additional 2,800 high-tech CCTV cameras will soon be operational, on top of the 1,500 already in place, to keep an eye on violations.

Commissioner Kumar explained that the city’s rapid expansion has led to more and more traffic congestion, but they’re on it. Major intersections, roads, and jam-prone areas have been identified, and cooperation with PMC, PMRDA, and Mahametro officials is in full swing to keep traffic flowing smoothly.

But wait, there’s more! Radar-based technology will be a game-changer in managing traffic. By analyzing traffic speed and congestion levels in real-time, authorities can quickly pinpoint problem areas and find solutions faster.

And here’s some good news – serious road accidents have seen a 20% to 25% decrease this year compared to the last few years. With enhanced traffic management and advanced technology, road safety in Pune is set to improve even further.

So, Punekars, get ready to say goodbye to traffic snarls and hello to a smoother ride in 2025!
