Pune, 16th June 2024: Murlidhar Mohol, the newly elected MP from Pune, has taken on the role of Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation. With a focus on resolving long-standing issues at Pune Airport, Mohol conducted a review meeting to address the challenges faced by residents due to infrequent flights and a lack of international connections.

During the meeting, Mohol highlighted the need to expand Pune Airport’s runway to meet the growing demand. He announced the acquisition of 35 acres of land for this purpose, with funding contributions from the Maharashtra State Government, Pune Municipal Corporation, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

In addition to discussing the expansion of Pune Airport, Mohol mentioned plans to meet with India’s Defence Minister to address recent flight delays. He also addressed the delayed opening of the new terminal at Pune Airport, citing the need for regulatory approvals and security personnel.

Furthermore, Mohol revealed that the proposed international airport in Pune’s Purandar Taluka has received approval from the DGCA for construction, with land acquisition efforts already underway. He also shared updates on the completion timeline for the Navi Mumbai Airport, set for 2025, which will reduce travel time for Punekars compared to Mumbai Airport.

Overall, Murlidhar Mohol’s initiatives aim to improve air travel infrastructure in Pune and enhance connectivity for residents. With plans for expansion and new airport developments, Pune is set to see significant improvements in its aviation sector in the near future.
