Hey Pune folks, looks like the PMC is getting serious about collecting those overdue property taxes! With over ₹10,000 crore in arrears and 3.5 lakh defaulters, the PMC has decided to take some drastic measures. Starting from today, they’re sending out five teams to disconnect water connections for those who haven’t paid up.

The PMC had set a target of ₹2,727 crore for this financial year, but they’ve only managed to collect ₹1,900 crore so far. Despite efforts like sealing properties and a special campaign that brought in ₹71.41 crore, there are still plenty of people dodging their tax bills.

Deputy Commissioner Madhav Jagtap isn’t messing around – he says water supply will be cut off immediately for defaulters, and they won’t get it back until they’ve paid in full. And it’s not just the city – even the newly merged villages are facing the heat, with tax collection suspended ahead of the recent elections and the PMC having to take matters into their own hands.

So if you’ve been putting off paying your property taxes, it might be time to rethink that strategy – because the PMC means business!
