Are you tired of seeing stories about people falling victim to online scams? Well, here’s another one for you. In a recent share-trading fraud, a 32-year-old software engineer lost a whopping ₹15.35 lakh after being promised 800% returns on his investments. Yes, you read that right – 800%! The scammer managed to lure the victim in by adding him to a group of investors on a messaging app and then guiding him to download a trading app. The poor software engineer ended up transferring money to six different accounts of the scammer between September 9 and October 23 last year.
But wait, there’s more. Another victim, a 47-year-old employee of a private protein food company, lost a staggering ₹20.93 lakh after being offered a 30% profit on his investments in the stock market. The scammer really knew how to play the game by gaining the victim’s trust through returning profits on initial investments. This led the victim to invest in various shares and IPOs suggested by the scammer.
Thankfully, the Hinjawadi and Chinchwad police have registered cases in these share-trading frauds and investigations are currently underway. It’s a stark reminder to always be cautious when dealing with online transactions and investments. You never know who might be trying to scam you out of your hard-earned money. Stay safe out there, folks!
