Hey folks, if you’ve been enjoying the early monsoon rains in Maharashtra, it’s time to brace yourself for some heat! The rain seems to be taking a break from the Konkan coast to the Vidarbha region, causing temperatures to soar by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. That’s right, we’re talking maximum temperatures hitting between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius across the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that the monsoon progress has hit a speed bump, with the monsoon winds losing their strength and the air becoming less moist. This has led to a decrease in rainfall from the Konkan coast to Vidarbha, leaving many areas dry.

Although the monsoon has reached most parts of Maharashtra, local warming is causing the moisture in the air to form clouds, resulting in sporadic light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.

Now, let’s talk numbers. While the country typically sees an average of 61.1 mm of rain from 1st June to 15th June, this year has only seen 52.1 mm, marking a 16% deficit. But fear not, Maharashtra has received 20% more rain than usual, with actual rainfall measuring at 91.7 mm compared to the average of 76.2 mm. Central Maharashtra has seen above-average rainfall, while areas like Ratnagiri, Dharashiv, and Chandrapur have experienced a rainfall deficit.

Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, a retired scientist from the IMD, has highlighted the lower-than-average rainfall in coastal areas of Maharashtra. However, he predicts that the southwest monsoon branch over the Arabian Sea will intensify in the coming days, with the Bay of Bengal branches also becoming active soon. So, don’t fret, monsoon rains are expected to pick up again after 20th June and spread across the country.

As for temperatures, Chandrapur hit a scorching 41.2 degrees Celsius recently, while Vidarbha saw temperatures ranging from 36 to 40 degrees Celsius. Marathwada stayed between 33 and 37 degrees Celsius, and Central Maharashtra cities like Nashik, Pune, and Solapur experienced temperatures in the low to mid-30s.

So, there you have it, folks. Keep an eye on the skies, stay hydrated, and get ready for more monsoon showers in the days to come! Stay cool, Maharashtra.
