Hey there, folks of Pune! Big news coming your way – the Centre has just approved a whopping ₹200 crore for landslide mitigation efforts in over 50 villages in Pune district. That’s right, areas like Bhor, Velhe, Ambegaon, Junnar, Maval, and Khed tehsils are all set to benefit from this much-needed funding.

According to Vitthal Banote, the district disaster management officer, these villages have been flagged as high-risk zones for landslides by the Geological Survey of India. The plan includes building retaining walls, reducing slopes, and improving drainage systems to tackle the issue head-on.

The Public Works Department will be taking charge of the project, with hopes of completing it before the monsoon hits. And let’s not forget the tragic incident in Malin village back in 2014, where 151 lives were lost due to a landslide. This project aims to prevent such disasters from happening again.

But wait, there’s more! GSI experts are also suggesting the permanent relocation of some villages to ensure safety. However, this decision is still pending government approval. A geologist who visited Malin village recently pointed out new cracks that could potentially lead to another disaster if not addressed promptly.

So, Pune, it’s time to take action and ensure the safety of our communities. Let’s hope that these measures bring much-needed relief to those at risk of landslides. Stay safe, everyone!
