Avtar group, a leading workplace culture consulting firm, announced the third edition of the ‘Top Cities for Women in India (TCWI) index’ and Pune has secured the 5th position. The city scored high on efficient governance and quality of life for working women.

Dr. Saundarya Rajesh, the Founder-President of Avtar group, emphasized the importance of cities in shaping women’s opportunities and lives. She highlighted the need for gender-inclusive cities that offer women the chance to thrive in their careers and lives. The TCWI index aims to identify role model cities and best practices for fostering women’s progress nationwide.

The top 10 cities for women in India in 2024 include Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Gurugram, and Coimbatore. The cities were ranked based on criteria such as social inclusion, industrial inclusion, and citizen experience scores. The South emerged as the most inclusive region, with Kerala leading the state-wise analysis with the highest average City Inclusion Score.

Overall, cities in the South and West scored higher in social and industrial inclusion, while the Central and Eastern regions lagged behind. Women rated cities based on skilling and employment, infrastructure, efficiency of government bodies, quality of life, and safety. Gurugram scored highest in skilling and employment, while Thiruvananthapuram and Pune topped the charts for governance efficiency.

Avtar group’s research included data from various sources and a nation-wide survey involving 1672 women from 60 cities. The TCWI index aims to provide a framework for organizations, policymakers, and individuals to promote well-rounded development in cities, crucial for women’s progress and inclusion.
