As Maharashtra gears up for the Makar Sankranti celebrations, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a rise in minimum temperatures across the state. Pune, known for its chilly nights, saw a minimum temperature of 10.9°C in Shavajinagar, with variations across different regions.

In Pune’s Lohegaon, the temperature was slightly higher at 13.6°C, while Kolhapur and Mahabaleshwar reported temperatures of 16.2°C and 11.8°C, respectively. The IMD expects Pune to see temperatures around 14-15°C by January 12-13, reaching 16°C by January 14-15 during the Makar Sankranti festivities.

Coastal areas like Mumbai, Alibaug, and Ratnagiri are experiencing warmer nights, with temperatures ranging from 15.8°C to 21.8°C. Meanwhile, the Vidarbha region, including Nagpur and Amravati, is seeing cooler temperatures.

The increase in minimum temperatures is attributed to a west-moving upper air cyclonic circulation over the Comorin/Laccadive region. This weather system is bringing warmer air from the Bay of Bengal, leading to moisture incursion in parts of Maharashtra.

Looking ahead, the IMD predicts a 2-3°C rise in minimum temperatures across Maharashtra in the next few days, with Gujarat expected to see a gradual temperature dip. South peninsular India may experience light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms, while Maharashtra is likely to remain mostly clear with haze in the early morning hours.

As the festive season approaches, be prepared for warmer nights and clear skies in Maharashtra. Stay tuned for more updates on the changing weather patterns across the state.
