Pune Airport has hit a major milestone by crossing the 1 crore passenger mark in the previous year, with both domestic and international travelers contributing to this achievement. The airport is now aiming for a 10% growth in passenger traffic in 2025, driven by its ongoing development and increasing flight movements.
The airport saw an 8.88% increase in total passenger traffic in 2024 compared to the previous year, reaching a record high of 1.02 crore passengers. International passengers increased from 1,70,503 in 2023 to 1,98,810 in 2024, while domestic passenger traffic surged from 92,68,832 to 1,00,78,885.
In December 2024, the airport recorded its highest-ever monthly traffic with nearly one million passengers (9,95,454), thanks to the festive season and increased terminal capacity. The rise in passenger numbers has been matched by an increase in aircraft movements, with over 200 flight movements on many days.
Despite the growth in passenger traffic and improvements in infrastructure, some passengers have raised concerns about certain aspects of the airport’s services. Business traveler Rohan Karnik highlighted long delays in the operationalization of DigiYatra and check-in counter queues as areas of concern.
In response to the increasing traffic, Pune Airport will be closing its old terminal for renovations starting in February 2025. The renovation plans will focus on creating additional departure areas to handle the growing number of passengers. With plans for further expansion and improvements, airport officials are optimistic about achieving their growth targets for the coming year.
