Hey there, folks! Have you heard about the latest cyber scam that rocked Koregaon Park recently? A manager from the area lost a whopping Rs 23 lakh after falling victim to a fraudulent text message. Yikes!
According to the cybercrime police inspector Swapnali Shinde, the manager received a sketchy message on his phone between December 6 and 8, 2024. When he clicked on the link in the message, cybercriminals gained access to his phone and deactivated his SIM card remotely. Sneaky, right?
But wait, it gets worse. The scammers used another SIM card to exploit the victim’s mobile banking access and ended up securing a loan of Rs 23 lakh using his bank credentials and credit card details. Talk about a nightmare!
The poor manager only realized he had been scammed when his phone stopped working for two days and he didn’t receive any loan verification or processing messages. It’s a tough lesson to learn, but it’s a reminder for all of us to be extra cautious when it comes to clicking on unknown links or sharing personal banking information.
The police are now on the case, trying to trace the money trail and identify the criminals behind this cyber fraud. Let’s hope they catch those scammers soon and prevent anyone else from falling for their tricks. Stay safe out there, everyone!
