Have you heard the latest news coming out of Navi Mumbai? The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is gearing up to build a 30km expressway that will connect Pagote near Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to Chauk junction on the old Pune Highway. This project is set to revolutionize travel between Mumbai, Pune, and Goa by improving connectivity and reducing travel time.

With an estimated cost of ₹3,700 crore, the expressway will pass through key routes like the Uran-Chirner highway, the Goa highway, and the Pune Expressway. It will have multiple entry and exit points to make travel along the corridor a breeze.

Once completed, the expressway will cut down the travel time from Mumbai’s MTHL to the Goa highway to just 20-30 minutes. Additionally, future extensions are planned to link this corridor with major highways like the Alibaug-Virar Multimodal Corridor, Murbad-Junnar Highway, and the Vadodara-Mumbai Greenfield Expressway.

The first phase of the 30km expressway is expected to be finished within 30 months, with construction scheduled to start in seven months. This corridor is projected to handle over 10,000 vehicles daily, which will help ease congestion in Navi Mumbai, Panvel, and Kalamboli.

NHAI Regional Manager Anshumali Shrivastav stated, “This six-lane greenfield corridor will require approximately 176 hectares of land and is designed to decongest major traffic bottlenecks. It will enhance freight transport in port and airport zones, reduce travel distances, and improve logistical efficiency for JNPT, Goa, Pune, and Mumbai.”

The strategic location of the expressway and its integration with other ongoing infrastructure projects are expected to make a significant impact on travel and freight movement across Maharashtra. This project not only promises to enhance connectivity but also to drive economic growth and industrial development in the region.

Exciting times are ahead for Navi Mumbai with the construction of this game-changing expressway that will revolutionize travel and boost economic activities in the region.
