Hey Pune peeps, buckle up because your city has just been ranked 4th in the world for average travel time! Yep, you read that right – according to the latest TomTom Traffic Index for 2024, Pune is facing some serious traffic congestion issues.
So, what does this mean for you? Well, on average, it takes about 33 minutes and 22 seconds to travel just 10 kilometres in Pune. And while there has been a slight improvement from last year, with travel times decreasing by 1 minute, the city still experiences a congestion level of 34%.
Residents in Pune are losing around 108 hours per year during rush hours due to traffic congestion. That’s a lot of precious time wasted sitting in your car when you could be doing something more productive!
But hey, it’s not all bad news. Pune is actually doing better than Kolkata and Bengaluru in terms of average travel time. However, when it comes to congestion levels, Pune falls behind Kolkata but is ahead of Bengaluru.
So, what’s the solution? Well, residents are calling on local authorities and urban planners to step up their game and come up with strategies to improve transportation infrastructure and traffic management systems. This could include things like better public transportation, smart traffic control systems, and promoting alternative modes of transport to ease road congestion.
It’s clear that Pune still has a long way to go in tackling its traffic issues, but with the right strategies in place, hopefully, things will start looking up soon. Until then, maybe it’s time to start carpooling or taking the bus to work!
