1. Pune bids farewell to Teja, a Labrador retriever who served in the city’s Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad for a decade. Teja was honoured in a heartfelt ceremony at the BDDS office in Shivajinagar.
2. Teja, who joined the squad in 2015 after completing training at the State CID Dog Training Centre, played a crucial role in securing high-security events like the G-20 Summit and protecting VIPs.
3. The senior officers and handlers who worked closely with Teja praised his dedication and contributions, highlighting his role in averting a potential disaster in Bhosari by locating a country-made bomb.
4. Teja’s retirement marks the end of an era, but the BDDS continues its operations with an elite team of canines led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Mohite.
5. The squad now includes Virat, Rana, Dhruva, Rocky, Azad, Veer, and Shaurya, with the latter two currently undergoing training to fill Teja’s paws. Handlers treat these bomb detection dogs like family and ensure their well-being even after retirement.
