Veterans Day celebrated at the Agnibaaz Division in Pune was not just a regular event, but a platform for Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi to shed light on the invaluable contribution of veterans in nation-building. Describing them as “invaluable human capital,” General Dwivedi highlighted their experience, discipline, and commitment.
In his address, General Dwivedi praised veterans for their service to the country and emphasized their role as a source of inspiration for society. With 24 lakh veterans, 7 lakh veer naris, and 12 lakh serving soldiers, he pointed out the vast human capital capable of transforming the nation.
Efforts to involve veterans in collaborative projects with state governments are already underway, with support from ex-servicemen governors. Effective communication between civil functionaries and veterans is crucial for promoting inclusion and participation in nation-building initiatives.
Various initiatives have been launched to support veterans’ welfare, including providing employment opportunities through the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and skill development programs. Projects like Project Naman and Veerangana Seva Kendra+ aim to address pension-related issues and provide healthcare support to veterans and their families.
Honoring the sacrifices of fallen soldiers, General Dwivedi honored families of brave soldiers like Captain Shubham Gupta, who was posthumously awarded the Sena Medal for his bravery. The launch of the ‘Sammaan’ magazine further highlights the initiatives for veterans’ welfare.
General Dwivedi’s vision for veterans involves engaging them in state-level initiatives, strengthening welfare programs, and promoting collaboration between civil authorities and the military community. Veterans represent a valuable resource for India’s nation-building efforts, and through strategic collaborations and welfare programs, the Army aims to empower them for a more active role in shaping the country’s future.
