Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking a bold step to tackle the issue of daytime garbage on city roads by launching nighttime garbage collection. Despite repeated warnings and awareness campaigns, residents continue to dump waste in public spaces and hard-to-reach areas, causing a major cleanliness problem.

Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam and the Solid Waste Management Department have initiated an eight-day trial of nighttime garbage collection. This trial aims to collect waste exclusively during the night shift to ensure cleaner roads during the day. If successful, the PMC plans to permanently shift to nighttime operations.

To support this initiative, PMC has acquired 81 new garbage collection vehicles equipped with public awareness speakers. The fleet of 351 trucks will be strategically deployed for efficient waste collection across the city. Additionally, PMC is focusing on public awareness, punitive measures against littering, and tree planting to transform former dumping spots into green spaces.

The benefits of nighttime garbage collection are numerous, including cleaner roads, improved traffic flow, and better waste management. PMC urges residents to cooperate and follow waste disposal guidelines to make this initiative a success. By working together, Pune can achieve cleaner streets and a healthier environment.
