Hey Pune folks, here’s some news for you! Did you know that over 100 housing societies in Maharashtra are pushing for a single-window clearance system to speed up self-redevelopment projects for buildings older than 30 years?

These societies have been facing major delays in getting permissions, causing many to put their redevelopment plans on hold. The Maharashtra State Cooperative Housing Societies Federation, which represents these societies, is not happy with the slow approval process by the state government, despite their support for self-redevelopment initiatives.

The federation is now calling for a meeting with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and officials from the housing and urban development department to address these issues. President Suhas Patwardhan pointed out that while the government talks about promoting self-redevelopment, the clearance process is taking way too long. He believes that a single-window system would speed things up significantly, as the current multiple department involvement causes coordination challenges.

Interestingly, the proposal for a single-window system has been sitting around since 2019 without any action taken. Members of the federation are suggesting that using technology could help speed up the scrutiny of redevelopment proposals by planning authorities, aligning with global advancements in artificial intelligence.

One member of a housing society in Pune, who is looking to do self-redevelopment, described the current process as a nightmare, with each department taking months to grant approvals. Let’s hope that the government listens to these societies and implements the single-window clearance system soon!
