Hey folks, here’s some news coming out of Pune for you. A protest march is set to take place tomorrow in Pimpri-Chinchwad, led by social activist Dr. Baba Adhav. The demonstrators are seeking justice for Raju Rajbhar, a rickshaw driver who tragically took his own life due to alleged harassment by moneylenders.

Rajbhar, who was the main provider for his family, left behind a son in college, a daughter in school, his wife, and an elderly, disabled mother. Before his death, he recorded a video and wrote a letter detailing the pressure and threats he faced from moneylenders.

Protesters are frustrated that two of the accused have been released on bail, while two others are still at large. They are questioning the police’s handling of the case, claiming negligence and suspicious behavior in the investigation.

The march, organized by the Rickshaw Panchayat, will kick off at 10 AM from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk in Pimpri, heading to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate in Chinchwad. Participants will include rickshaw drivers and Rajbhar’s family.

At a recent meeting of the Rickshaw Panchayat, members discussed the wider issue of financial struggles among low-income groups. They highlighted the challenges of accessing bank loans, which often lead individuals to seek help from unregulated finance companies and moneylenders who resort to aggressive and illegal tactics for recovery.

The protesters are calling for stricter regulation of finance companies, action against illegal moneylenders, and a more empathetic approach from law enforcement when handling complaints from borrowers. This tragic incident has shed light on the hardships faced by many in the informal sector who become victims of predatory lending practices, often resulting in devastating outcomes. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
