The battle between Ola and Uber and the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) continues as their license issues are still unresolved. The final hearing, which was supposed to take place on Tuesday before the State Transport Appellate Tribunal, has been postponed to July 8. Both companies and the RTA have presented their arguments, and now they await a final decision.

The root of the problem lies in the absence of a state motor vehicle aggregator policy. Ola and Uber applied for licenses under the Central Government’s Motor Vehicle Aggregator Policy, but their applications were rejected by the RTA in a meeting chaired by District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase on March 11. This led to the companies appealing the decision before the State Transport Appellate Tribunal, with the first hearing held on April 22.

One of the key points of contention is the fare increase for air-conditioned taxis by the RTA to Rs 37 for the first one and a half kilometers and Rs 25 for each subsequent kilometer. Ola and Uber have not implemented this fare hike, leading to further disagreements between the companies and the RTA. Despite efforts to reach a resolution through meetings chaired by the District Collector, no agreement has been reached, ultimately resulting in the rejection of the companies’ license applications.

As the legal battle continues, it remains to be seen how Ola and Uber will navigate these challenges and whether they will be able to continue operating in the region. Stay tuned for updates as the situation unfolds.
