Lonavala, the picturesque hill station situated between Mumbai and Pune, is currently facing a major issue – traffic congestion. The surge in visitors during the monsoon season has led to gridlocks on the roads, especially on weekends.

To tackle this problem head-on, the Lonavala traffic department has put in place some temporary traffic changes. They have also called in additional police forces to help manage the situation effectively.

One of the major causes of the traffic congestion is the high number of tourists flocking to Bhushi Dam, a popular attraction in Lonavala. The roads leading to the dam often become jam-packed as tourists try to navigate their way around.

In response to this issue, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Satyasai Karthik, has announced several measures to ease traffic disruptions. Around 100 extra police personnel have been brought in from Pune Rural Police Headquarters, along with Home Guard personnel. A team of police volunteers will also be on hand to assist with traffic management.

To reduce congestion, some traffic diversions have been put in place. Vehicles heading towards Pune from the Ambarwadi Ganapati Temple area will be redirected through Indiranagar, Tungarli, and the Narayan Dham police post. Motorists going to Bhushi Dam are advised to take the expressway route via Sinhagad College, passing through Kailash Nagar Crematorium, Hanuman Hill, and Kusgaon Ganpati Temple.

A traffic management control room has been set up at Kumar Police Chowky, equipped with loudspeakers for real-time updates. A one-way road system has also been implemented between Bhangarwadi Indrayani Bridge and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk to ease congestion in Lonavala Bazar.

Parking regulations have been put in place, with strict actions promised against parking violations. Motorists heading to Bhushi Dam are reminded not to park on the roads where designated parking spaces are available. Vehicles must only be parked in the designated areas, and parking in a way that obstructs traffic flow in the Khandala Rajmachi Point area is prohibited.

Tourists are urged to comply with all directives issued by the police, with a warning that unruly behavior will not be tolerated. A joint team of personnel from Lonavala city and rural police stations will be on hand to take immediate action against any such behavior.

So, if you’re planning a trip to Lonavala during the rainy season, make sure to follow the traffic rules and cooperate with the authorities to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit.
