Ever since the inauguration of the Ruby Hall Clinic Metro Station to Ramwadi Metro Station route by the Prime Minister in March 2024, Pune Metro has been on the rise. The daily passenger numbers have been steadily increasing, with June 2024 seeing an average of over 90,000 passengers per day. This marks a significant milestone for public transportation in Pune, with the metro system gaining popularity among residents and helping to ease congestion and reduce pollution in the city.

The progress of the Pune Metro has been impressive, with 29.58 km out of the total 33.2 km route already completed. The remaining 3.62 km is expected to be finished within the next few months. Key stations such as Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Metro Station, Pune Railway Metro Station, Ramwadi Metro Station, Vanaz Metro Station, Pune Municipal Corporation Metro Station, and Nal Stop Metro Station have become major hubs, each serving over 5,000 passengers daily.

In June, various metro stations saw a significant increase in daily passengers. Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had an average of 13,298 daily passengers, Vanaz had 6,446, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had 5,965, Pune Railway Station had 9,205, and Ramwadi had 9,203. These numbers highlight the growing reliance on Pune Metro as a preferred mode of transportation.

Analysis of passenger distribution showed that Purple Line 1 serves 22,097 passengers daily while Aqua Line 2 serves 47,567 passengers. This balanced utilization across metro lines is indicative of the success of the metro system in Pune.

Looking towards the future, Managing Director of Maha Metro, Shravan Hardikar, expressed optimism about the metro’s increasing role in Pune’s public transport network. With over 90,000 average daily passengers in June, the metro system continues to grow and meet the evolving needs of the city’s residents.
