Hey Pune residents, heads up! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is on high alert as the number of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) cases in the Sinhagad Road region and surrounding areas has spiked significantly. With 59 patients currently hospitalized, health officials suspect water contamination may be the culprit.

Survey teams are hitting the streets to collect water samples and interview residents to get to the bottom of this outbreak. Dr. Babita Kamalapurkar from the state health department confirmed that 11 patients are on ventilator support, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Dr. Neena Borade from PMC health emphasized the need for caution, especially for residents along the Mutha riverbank. Sassoon General Hospital is treating 13 patients for GBS symptoms, with some requiring ventilator support.

As the National Institute of Virology (NIV) analyzes samples from affected patients, experts are urging residents to boil their drinking water to prevent any further infections. Stay safe, Pune!
