In a recent incident in Pune, a patient’s death during treatment at a hospital led to a tense situation as the patient’s relatives and social workers demanded the entire bill be waived before accepting the body. This has become a common tactic used to pressure hospitals into reducing or waiving bills completely.

In response to this, Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar has issued a warning to those who try to hold hospitals or doctors to ransom. He has directed all senior inspectors and deputy commissioners of police to file non-bailable cases against individuals who engage in such behavior.

While it is important to hold hospitals and doctors accountable for any negligence or wrongdoing, it is not appropriate to put pressure on them in this manner. Instead, individuals are encouraged to approach organizations like the Indian Medical Association with any complaints.

CP Kumar emphasized the need for proper action to be taken in such situations, rather than resorting to tactics that can harm the reputation and functioning of healthcare providers. Non-bailable cases will be filed against those who attempt to hold hospitals or doctors to ransom in the future.
