Hey there, folks! It’s time for a quick update on the latest health news coming out of Dhayari. Maharashtra’s Health Minister Prakash Abitkar has officially confirmed that a 41-year-old chartered accountant from Dhayari who sadly passed away in Solapur was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Yep, you heard that right – it’s a confirmed case of GBS.
This unfortunate incident marks the first recorded death in the growing GBS cluster that has been causing concern in Pune since January 9. The health department initially labeled the death as “suspected” in a bulletin on Sunday, but Minister Abitkar has now set the record straight. As of now, Pune has seen a total of 111 GBS cases, with 10 new cases popping up just this past Sunday. Currently, 17 patients are on ventilator support, while seven have been discharged.
In response to this alarming situation, a team of experts from Delhi and Bengaluru has been dispatched to Pune to help the state government tackle the outbreak and implement necessary public health measures.
According to the family of the deceased Dhayari resident, he started experiencing symptoms on January 9, including a bout of diarrhea. He decided to self-medicate with over-the-counter drugs before heading to Solapur with his family on January 14. Unfortunately, his condition worsened, and he was admitted to the hospital on January 18.
Doctors at the hospital quickly diagnosed him with GBS after conducting nerve conduction studies. Despite receiving treatment, his condition deteriorated, and he eventually passed away on January 25.
Medical teams are currently working hard to uncover the triggers for GBS in the Pune cluster. Some patient samples have already shown the presence of certain bacteria and viruses.
Dr. Sanjeev Thakur from Vaishampayan Medical College in Solapur mentioned that further analysis is being conducted on samples to identify the infection that may have sparked the condition. Results are expected within a week.
Dr. Rakhi Mane, head of the Solapur Municipal Corporation’s health department, shared that the patient had completed a course of immunoglobulin therapy and had reported symptoms like tingling in his limbs before his admission.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story, and remember to take care of your health, folks!
