Pune/Pimpri: In a groundbreaking move, the first mass marriage programme for transgenders is set to take place in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Tuesday, January 28. This progressive social initiative is a testament to the efforts of NGO Nari the Woman and its dedicated team of President Asif Shaikh, Vice-President Archana Mengde, Bhai Vishal Jadhav, and Journalist Arun (Nana) Kamble.

Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh has been at the forefront of promoting all-round development in the city, including embracing progressive social and cultural practices. The upcoming mass marriage for five transgender couples is a clear reflection of his commitment to ensuring justice for all members of society.

The event, scheduled to take place at Balaji Lawns in Kalewadi at 7 pm, has garnered support from various individuals and organizations. PCMC, Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap, Industrialist Santosh Barne, Alkesh Tripathi, former Corporator Supriya Chandgude, and Mallisheth Kadarapurkar are among those who have extended their assistance to the initiative.

The festivities will kick off with the traditional ‘Sakharpuda’ ceremony at 11 am, followed by the ‘Haldi’ ceremony at 2 pm. The much-anticipated mass marriage will then take place in the presence of hundreds of citizens and dignitaries at 7 pm. Notable figures expected to attend include MP Shrirang Barne, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, State ADGP Krishna Prakash, Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, and several MLAs and MLCs.

The event promises to be a celebration of love, acceptance, and inclusivity, marking a significant milestone in the fight for equal rights and social justice for all individuals in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
