Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Pune today. The National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) Western Zone Bench in Pune has given authorities a swift kick in the pants to get cracking on soil and water conservation measures in the forest area of Mohammedwadi. This all started when a resident of NIBM Annex, Jaymala Dhankikar, raised a stink about the sorry state of affairs in the forest and got the ball rolling back in September 2024.

At a hearing held just yesterday on January 27, 2025, the NGT took a good hard look at what the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change had to say. Turns out, there’s no evidence of forest destruction, but there are some serious issues with soil erosion and damaged boundaries causing a ruckus in Mohammedwadi.

The complainant, Jaymala Dhankikar, is not messing around. She’s all fired up about rainwater and soil runoff messing things up during monsoons and causing all sorts of headaches for the nearby residents. She’s calling for the Forest Department to get their act together and implement some soil conservation measures ASAP.

And get this, the forest department reported that the boundary wall on the hill slope took a beating from the rain and had to be taken down. But fear not, they’re working on rebuilding it to prevent any further erosion.

The NGT is not amused, though. They’re not buying any attempts to hide the truth and want full transparency moving forward. They’ve ordered the Forest Department to get their act together before the next monsoon season hits and to address all of Jaymala Dhankikar’s concerns like yesterday.

Speaking to Punekar News, Jaymala Dhankikar is calling for action. She’s pointing to a report from way back in 2007 that laid bare the environmental mess in the NIBM – Kondhwa forest area. It’s time for the forest department to step up and make things right for the residents and the ecosystem.

This whole thing started with a report in Punekar News that got everyone’s attention. Now, the Forest Department is on notice, and it’s time to clean up their act before things get even messier.
