Hey there Pune residents! Have you heard about the latest efforts to combat Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in your city? Well, the municipal administration is taking some serious steps to tackle the spread of this illness in affected villages.
So, here’s the scoop: due to an increase in GBS cases in areas like Kirkatwadi, Nanded City, Dhayari, Ambegaon, and Nandoshi, the authorities have decided to install an automatic system to add chlorine powder to water wells. This move aims to disinfect the water supply more efficiently and accurately.
Currently, water for these villages is disinfected manually by municipal staff at a well in Nanded. Water from dams is brought to the well via tankers, where chlorine powder is added before distribution. But now, an automatic chlorine dosing system is on the cards to streamline this process.
Nandkishore Jagtap, head of the municipal water supply department, mentioned that an automatic meter system will be installed on the well to regulate chlorine levels effectively. This measure is crucial in combating the contamination that has been linked to the rise in GBS cases.
The state health department and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are working hand in hand to address the situation. Minister of State for Medical Education, Madhuri Misal, has instructed seamless coordination to prioritize measures to tackle the disease. Kamala Nehru Hospital under PMC is fully equipped to provide treatment for GBS patients, with an increased financial assistance cap for medical aid.
Furthermore, a nodal officer has been appointed by PMC to oversee efforts, and a survey of approximately 65,000 houses in affected regions has been completed. Vital resources like Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) injections are available for patients, and preventive measures like boiling water before consumption are being emphasized to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases.
So, Pune folks, rest assured that the authorities are on top of things and are working hard to keep you safe and healthy. Stay informed, stay vigilant, and take those preventive measures seriously!
