Passengers at Pune Airport’s AeroMall are up in arms over what they claim to be unfair practices by popular cab aggregators Ola and Uber. According to travellers, the companies are allegedly manipulating availability to push more expensive ride options on customers.
Passengers looking for affordable rides like Ola Mini have reportedly been faced with a common response from service representatives – that these vehicles are either unavailable or will take an extended period to arrive. This leaves customers with no choice but to opt for pricier services such as Ola Prime.
Adding to the frustration, passengers using the Ola booth for assisted bookings have complained that the One-Time Password (OTP) required to confirm the ride expires within a short five-minute window, often due to a lack of available cabs. When they try to rebook, the fare for the same destination has mysteriously increased, forcing them to pay more than they had initially anticipated.
One disgruntled traveller described the situation as a “scam,” highlighting the continuous unavailability of Ola Mini and the subsequent push towards Ola Prime, which comes at almost double the cost. The issue is further exacerbated by the OTP expiration tactic.
Numerous passengers have reported similar experiences at the cab booking booth on the second floor of AeroMall, with critics arguing that these practices not only exploit customers but also boost profits for ride-hailing companies by diverting users towards higher-priced services.
This controversy arises amidst existing challenges at Pune Airport, including app-based cab refusals, long wait times, cab shortages, and inflated fares. Calls have been made for consumer rights activists and local authorities to look into these allegations and ensure fair practices for all passengers.
