Pune, 31st January 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is cracking down on property tax defaulters, aiming to collect ₹10 crore per day to meet budget goals. However, the State Government’s decision to suspend tax collection from newly included villages is posing a challenge.

In a recent meeting at the PMC headquarters, Deputy Commissioner Madhav Jagtap urged officials to speed up tax recovery efforts. With a target of ₹2,800 crore for the financial year, the department has collected ₹2,000 crore so far, leaving a significant amount to be recovered in just two months.

To reach their goal, officers are required to take action against at least 10 tax-defaulting properties daily, including confiscation and auctioning if necessary. The State Government’s moratorium on property tax collection from certain villages has made revenue generation more difficult, especially with arrears from commercial properties.

Despite these challenges, the Property Tax Department is determined to recover ₹600 crore in the next 60 days, canceling all employee leaves to focus on collection efforts. The PMC is also targeting the Sinhagad Educational Institute, which owes ₹18 crore in property tax and faces asset auctioning if dues are not cleared.

As property tax arrears rise, the PMC faces pressure to meet financial targets, leading to stricter enforcement in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for updates on the city’s revenue recovery efforts.
