Hey there, Pune folks! Did you feel the heat on Wednesday? Well, that’s because Shivajinagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in January at a scorching 35.9 degrees Celsius. And guess what? December wasn’t any cooler either, with above average temperatures reported.
This winter has been a rollercoaster of temperatures, with cold waves coming and going, but overall, it’s been pretty warm. In fact, the highest temperature recorded in the past decade has been between 30 to 34 degrees Celsius, with 2016 hitting a high of 34.4 degrees.
But back in 2009, things were even hotter, with temperatures reaching above 35 degrees. Yep, on January 27 and January 26, Pune saw highs of 35.3 and 35.2 degrees Celsius.
So, what’s causing all this warmth? According to IMD Scientist SD Sanap, the chilly winds from the North have disappeared, making way for an anti-cyclonic system that’s boosting temperatures. And voila, we’ve got ourselves the highest maximum temperature in January ever recorded in Pune.
Looks like we’ll need to find some creative ways to beat the heat this winter!
