Hey there Pune peeps, have you heard the latest news about the Pune Municipal Corporation’s 24X7 Water Supply Project? Well, let me fill you in on all the juicy details.

So, the Water Supply Department has finally completed the project, which was started back in 2016 with a whopping budget of Rs 3,000 crores. The main aim of the project was to put a stop to water thefts and leakages, so that water can be distributed 24X7 to all areas of the city. Sounds like a pretty big deal, right?

Now, here’s the interesting part – the department has proposed to install water meters in the areas where the project work is done. This means that soon, you might start receiving water bills based on the reading from these water meters. No more guessing games when it comes to your water usage!

As part of the project, a total of 86 water tanks are set to be built, new pipelines will be laid down and ultra-modern water meters will be installed. In fact, out of the 2.32 lakh water meters that need to be set up, 1.68 lakh meters have already been installed. Not too shabby, huh?

But hold on a minute, there’s a bit of a snag in the plan. Due to issues with land acquisition and disputes with the contractor, the project has been delayed. It’s hard to say when exactly the remaining work will be completed, but hey, good things come to those who wait, right?

And let’s not forget about the water quota situation. While the Irrigation Department has reserved 16.32 TMC water quota till 2032 for a population of 70 lakh, the city currently only has approval for 12.82 TMC quota. That’s a bit of a gap, considering the city actually needs 24 TMC water. Yikes!

Despite these challenges, the PMC is determined to supply water equitably to all areas. The Equitable Water Supply Project aims to plug leakages and provide saved water to citizens. This means that water cess has been increased by 100% to recover costs. Let’s hope this plan works out in the long run.

So, there you have it folks – the latest scoop on Pune’s water supply situation. Stay tuned for more updates on how this project unfolds. Until then, remember to stay hydrated and conserve water whenever you can. Cheers! 馃毎馃寠
