Hey there, Pune peeps! The third World Marathi Conference kicked off today in our very own city, with CM Devendra Fadnavis leading the charge. In his opening speech, Fadnavis didn’t shy away from addressing the controversies surrounding the event, stating that a little drama is par for the course when it comes to these gatherings. After all, where there’s passion, there’s bound to be some fiery debates.
Fadnavis also highlighted the global presence of Marathi speakers, sharing a recent encounter in Davos where he was pleasantly surprised to hear his mother tongue. He even touched upon his famous catchphrase, “Mi Punha Yein,” and how its meaning has evolved over time.
One of the major announcements made was the government’s plan to merge Marathi literature with AI technology. This move aims to make Marathi literature more accessible to future generations through innovative language modules.
The conference also honored Madhu Mangesh Karnik, a stalwart in the Marathi literary scene. The event, running until 2nd February, is all about celebrating and showcasing the richness of Marathi language and culture on a global scale.
Fadnavis stressed the importance of such conferences in fostering cultural exchange and intellectual discussions, even if it means stirring up a few debates. So, here’s to more World Marathi Conferences in the future! As Fadnavis playfully put it, “Mi Punha Yein, Mi Punha Yeil” (I will come again, I will come again).
