Pune, known for its rich history and vibrant culture, is set to undergo a major transformation with the approval of a comprehensive development plan worth ₹2,052 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26 by the Pune District Planning Committee. This plan, which was given the green light on Thursday, includes allocations for the district annual plan, Scheduled Caste sub-plan, Tribal sub-plan, and extra demands totaling ₹1,299.58 crore and an additional ₹753 crore.

One of the key focuses of the approved plan is the establishment of model schools and smart primary health centers throughout the district. Each taluka will witness the development of one large school at the central school level, with plans to create 303 model schools annually. Additionally, there will be efforts to upgrade and repair primary health centers to ensure efficient medical services.

Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar, who led the meeting, proposed the creation of an integrated tourism development plan taking into account the district’s historical sites, religious places, forts, and monuments. He emphasized that funds will be allocated through the District Planning Committee and encouraged seeking additional funding from corporate social responsibility endeavors and the state tourism department.

The plan allocates significant funds across various sectors, including Social and Community Services (₹390 crore), Transport (₹185 crore), Rural Development (₹175 crore), Energy Development (₹85 crore), Agriculture and Allied Services (₹71.20 crore), Industry and Mining (₹77.76 crore), Irrigation and Flood Control (₹23.26 crore), General Services (₹29 crore), and Innovative Schemes (₹55 crore).

Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil addressed the issue of scholarships for Scheduled Caste and Tribe students, mentioning ongoing discussions with the central government to resolve challenges faced by educational institutions. He also highlighted the successful implementation of 100% scholarships for girls pursuing professional higher education at the state level.

The meeting, attended by various ministers, MPs, MLAs, and senior officials from different departments, showcased a collaborative effort in formulating this comprehensive development plan for the Pune district. With these initiatives in place, Pune is poised for a brighter and more prosperous future.
