A shocking case of financial fraud has come to light in Pune, where a director-CA cheated his own firm of a whopping Rs 1.74 crore. The incident occurred at BPA Technology Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Nihilent Ltd located at Weikfield Infopark in Viman Nagar.
The accused, identified as CA Akash Umesh Pande and his wife Smriti Akash Pande, residents of Lohegaon, misused their positions within the company. Akash Pande prepared a fake statement of State Bank of India and submitted it to the Auditor as genuine. Subsequently, he withdrew Rs 1,74,24,368 and transferred the money to his and his wife’s bank accounts. A complaint has been lodged at Yerwada Police Station regarding this financial fraud.
The complainant, Avijeet Dulalchandra Karmakar, a company director, revealed that Akash Pande had been a director at BPA Technology Pvt Ltd from June 1, 2018 to March 12, 2022. Despite the company not being operational from April 1, 2019 onwards, some transactions were conducted from its Viman Nagar office. Pande was responsible for various financial operations and had access to the company’s bank account at the Chennai branch of State Bank of India.
The situation escalated when Pande’s wife informed the complainant that her husband had been detained by the police for cyber fraud and would be absent from office for some time. Subsequent investigations revealed that Pande and his wife had siphoned off company funds to their personal and partnership accounts. The company discovered this fraud when it checked the bank statement and found illegal withdrawals totaling Rs 1.74 crore.
The accused allegedly took advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic, when company offices were closed, to carry out the fraudulent activities. Using a fake State Bank of India logo and false outstanding balance, Pande managed to deceive the company and embezzle a significant amount of money. The case has raised concerns about the need for stringent financial oversight and accountability within companies to prevent such incidents in the future.
