Hey Pune peeps, have you heard about the latest update on the ‘Ti Bus’ mobile toilets for women in the city? Well, it turns out that out of the 11 buses launched by the PMC, only three are currently in operation. But don’t worry, because the Solid Waste Department is here to save the day!
In response to the low number of operational buses, the Solid Waste Department has decided to float a tender for the maintenance and repair of these mobile toilets for the next five years. And guess what? Users will now be charged a nominal fee of Rs 5 for using this service. It’s a small price to pay for a clean and convenient toilet on wheels, right?
The ‘Ti Bus’ project was initially launched as part of the City Clean Campaign back in 2019, with the goal of providing mobile toilets for women at busy locations across Pune. The buses, which were repurposed from old PMPML buses, were placed at 11 high-traffic areas. However, due to operational challenges, eight buses had to be discontinued over time.
But fear not, because the PMC is determined to bring back these closed buses by outsourcing their maintenance through a tender. With an estimated budget of Rs 50 lakh, the selected company will not only be responsible for keeping the buses in top shape but also have the opportunity to advertise on the buses and sell packaged food on one side.
Inspired by a similar project in Delhi, the ‘Ti Bus’ initiative aims to provide women with clean and accessible toilet facilities in public spaces. With the revival of this service, PMC officials are confident that women in Pune will have a more reliable and well-maintained option for their toilet needs. So let’s keep our fingers crossed for a successful comeback of the ‘Ti Bus’ mobile toilets in the city!
