The much-anticipated six-lane elevated road from Ravet to Narhe on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass, Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, has hit a snag as approval from the central government is still pending. This delay means that the traffic congestion in Hinjawadi’s IT Park will continue for another year.
The proposed elevated corridor aims to ease congestion on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, passing through various areas including Wakad, Tathawade, Punawale, Ravet, Balewadi, Baner, Sus, and Bavdhan. The project is estimated to cost around ₹2,000 crore, with an additional ₹600 crore allocated for service roads. Despite the detailed project report being ready, NHAI officials have confirmed that approval is still pending.
While waiting for the green light from the central government, NHAI has approved the widening of service roads in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, and nearby rural areas. The first phase will involve land acquisition and road widening from Ravet to Wakad, followed by the concretization of service roads from Wakad to Khed Shivapur.
The elevated road project will be executed in three phases: Ravet to Balewadi, Balewadi to Warje, and Warje to Narhe. Ankit Yadav, Manager of the Technical Department at NHAI, stated that the DPR has been submitted to the Union Road Development Ministry for final approval. Once cleared, the tendering process will begin, followed by construction.
Commuters, especially IT professionals in Hinjawadi, are frustrated by the delay as they continue to face severe traffic congestion during peak hours. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
